The mountain, Ama Dablam in the Nepalese Himalayas is depicted in this painting. The main peak is 6,812 metres (22,349 ft). The mountain is wreathed in ring of clouds giving it an other worldly presence and majestic beauty. The hanging glacier is an allegory for wisdom manifested as crystallised pain, for the danger it poses, and the nature of frozen water as a store of etheric memory. Ama Dablam means "mother's necklace" the long ridges on each side like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. For several days, Ama Dablam dominates the eastern sky for anyone trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp. The mountain is painted from near Pangboche which Alexander walked through in 2014. This painting is part of a larger group of works which Alex made in response to his expedition to the Barun Valey region of Nepal to Climb Baruntse 7,129 m in 2014.
