The Sacred Confluence explores the meeting point between the physical landscape and the inner landscape of spiritual experience. Inspired by remote mountain environments and the convergence of rivers and glaciers, the work reflects my interest in nature as a living presence rather than simply a place to be represented.

The painting is created using heavily diluted oil paint suspended in white spirits and poured onto raw sized linen, allowing the surface to absorb colour in a manner reminiscent of watercolour. This process embraces unpredictability: flowing paint, bleeding edges, and the natural movement of pigment become active collaborators in the image. Gestural brushstrokes respond intuitively to these chance occurrences, balancing controlled mark-making with spontaneous events. The resulting layers evoke the shifting atmosphere of water, mist, and rock while preserving the immediacy of the painting's making.

The confluence becomes both a geographical phenomenon and a metaphor for the meeting of material and spiritual realities. I am drawn to landscapes that have long been understood as places of contemplation and transformation, where immense geological forces invite reflection on our own place within the natural world. Rather than depicting a specific location, The Sacred Confluence seeks to evoke an experience of the sublime, where permanence and flux, intention and chance, exist in quiet equilibrium.
