The Wanderer above the Sea of Ice

3,700.00

Painting
Size: 51 H x 71 W x 4 cm

This piece by Alexander Heaton references Caspar David Friedreich's painting Wanderer above the sea of clouds, as an old man stands in a similar pose, with the mountain Piz Palu of the Bernina Range in the Alps looming above. The name Palü derives from the Latin palus, meaning a swamp, and the mountain is said to be named after the Alpe Palü, a high alpine pasture some 4 km to its east.
